  2023 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Tyler Huff, Gr., QB, Furman,...Entering postseason play, Furman's Tyler Huff is 14th in the FCS in completion percentage (.667). Huff leads all SoCon quarterbacks in rushing yards (488), which is 10th overall in the conference, despite missing the final two games of the regular season due to injury. Huff has completed 150-of-225 passes with just four interceptions this season. In addition to his nine passing TDs, he has also rushed for five scores. During a three-game stretch in October, Huff tossed two touchdowns in each game while rushing for at least 79 yards in each contest. Huff claimed SoCon Offensive Player of the Week honors twice this season and was the SoCon Offensive Player of the Month in October.   Over six years since he first committed to Rich Rodriguez at Arizona, Jamarye Joiner is pledging to RichRod again. Joiner, a Tucson native and wide receiver who entered the transfer portal following the 2022 season, announced on Twitter Tuesday morning that he's committed to Jacksonville State. Rodriguez is the Gamecocks' head coach; former Arizona quarterbacks coach Rod Smith is JSU's offensive coordinator.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 220-pound Cienega High School product was recruited by the Rodriguez regime to play quarterback for the Wildcats. Rodriguez's successor, Kevin Sumlin, converted Joiner to wide receiver. Joiner had a breakout season in 2019, leading the Wildcats with 552 receiving yards and five touchdowns. In the second half of Joiner's career at the UA, he endured multiple surgeries for a Jones fracture in the same foot. - Arizona Star News

  After five seasons playing for his hometown team, Jamarye Joiner will explore other opportunities beyond Tucson. The Arizona Wildcats wide receiver and former Cienega High School star announced on Friday that he will enter the NCAA transfer portal. Joiner will have one more season of eligibility as a graduate transfer. The 6-foot-1-inch, 220-pound Joiner was originally recruited by the Rich Rodriguez regime to play quarterback for the Wildcats.   Tyler Huff threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Furman to a 31-6 victory over Elon on Saturday in the first round of the FCS Championship. Furman led 14-3 at halftime on the strength of a 30-yard TD pass from Huff to Ryan Miller and a 10-yard touchdown run by Devin Abrams. The Paladins wrapped it up with a 75-yard drive that took more than nine minutes off the clock in the fourth quarter, capped by Huff scoring on a 9-yard run. Grant Robinson later added a 25-yard touchdown run.

Huff completed 16 of 26 passes for 140 yards and Dominic Roberto had 98 yards rushing for Furman (10-2). Huff added 93 yards rushing and the Paladins had 251 yards on the ground. The Phoenix (8-4) gained 315 yards but were 5-for-17 on third down, 1-for-5 on fourth and reached the red zone once. Elon's Skyler Davis kicked 51- and 52-yard field goals, making him 7 of 8 on 50-plus-yard attempts this season. He tied the FCS single-season record for 50-plus-yard FGs. Webb threw a 25-yard TD pass to Anwar Lewis in the second quarter and ran for a 2-yard score late in the game. Jacksonville State recorded a safety on a blocked punt.   Tyler Huff completed 21 of 22-pass attempts, threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns and Furman beat Wofford 63-28 on Saturday to end the regular season. The Paladins (9-2, 7-1 Southern Conference) missed out on a chance to earn a share of the conference title when Samford (10-1, 8-0) beat Mercer 50-44 in double overtime. Furman closed the regular season with a six-game win streak and will now await an at-large bid to the FCS playoffs when the playoff field is announced Sunday.   2022 MEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jarod Bowie (Concord),...Bowie, a junior from Martinsburg, W.Va., earned MEC Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading the country in receptions (102), receiving yards (1,773) and receiving touchdowns (18) this season. He also ranked in the top 15 nationally in scoring (108 points) and all-purpose yards (1,772) during the 2022 regular season. He had 919 more receiving yards and eight more touchdowns than the next closest player in the MEC individual statistics.   Zion Webb and Pat Jackson both ran for two touchdowns and Jacksonville State defeated Eastern Kentucky 42-17 on Saturday. Ron Wiggins led the Gamecocks (8-2, 4-0 Atlantic Sun) with 139 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries and Webb had 104 yards on 15 carries. Despite Jacksonville State piling up 341 yards on the ground, Jackson netted one yard on four carries. Webb was also 10-of-16 passing for 155 yards.   Linebacker Quae Drake scored two touchdowns to help Louisiana-Monroe edge Georgia State 31-28 on Saturday. Calum Sutherland's 54-yard field goal pulled UL Monroe within 28-23 early in the fourth quarter. On third-and-5 with 6:23 to play, Drake intercepted a Darren Grainger pass and returned it 34 yards to the end zone for UL Monroe's first lead and the win. Georgia State turned it over on downs on its last two possessions. Drake also scooped the ball from a blocked punt and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Chandler Rogers was 15-of-29 passing for 225 yards for UL Monroe (4-6, 3-3 Sun Belt Conference). Andrew Henry had a 4-yard touchdown run.   Malik Jackson scored on a 3-yard run early in the fourth quarter to give Louisiana-Monroe the lead, and Texas State missed a field goal with seven seconds left as the Warhawks held on for a 31-30 victory on Saturday night. UL Monroe (3-6, 2-3 Sun Belt Conference) could not move the football after it took the lead, going three-and-out and fumbling the ball away on its last two possessions. Texas State (3-6, 1-4) punted and turned the ball over on downs before driving to the Warhawks' 21 for Seth Keller's 38-yard field goal attempt.

Layne Hatcher threw a pair of touchdown passes to Javen Banks, and Lincoln Pare ran for a score as Texas State took a 21-0 lead after one quarter. Chandler Rogers caught a short touchdown pass from Will Derrick and hit Tyrone Howell with a 46-yard scoring strike to bring UL Monroe back, making it 24-17 at halftime, and his 18-yard pass to Howell got the Warhawks within three, 27-24 with 6:25 left in the third. Rogers was 28 of 40 for 310 yards passing with two touchdowns and an interception for UL Monroe (3-6, 2-3).   Zion Webb had a touchdown pass and a touchdown catch to power Jacksonville State to a 40-16 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday. Webb staked Jacksonville State (7-2, 3-0 Atlantic Sun Conference) to a 6-0 first-quarter lead with a 48-yard scoring strike to Perry Carter. CJ Evans Jr. scored on a 4-yard run on the final play of the quarter to give Austin Peay (5-3, 1-2) a 7-6 lead. The Governors' Maddux Trujillo kicked a 55-yard field goal on the last play of the first half to knot the score at 16.

The Gamecocks took control in the third quarter — scoring on a 3-yard run by Pat Jackson and receiver Sterling Galban's 5-yard touchdown toss to Webb with 18 seconds left in the quarter for a 30-16 lead. Webb completed 12 of 24 passes for 186 yards with one interception for JSU. Matt LaRoche carried 23 times for 89 yards and Webb ran 14 times for 75 yards.   Tyler Huff passed for 203 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for 132 yards and a score to help Furman beat Chattanooga 24-20 on Saturday. Furman took a 24-10 lead early in the fourth quarter on Huff's long throw over the middle to Ryan Miller, who broke a tackle at the 5 and scored from 30-yards out. The Chattanooga quarterback capped the scoring early in the fourth quarter with a 5-yard run. Huff was 16 of 25 with an interception and he carried it 20 times for Furman (7-2, 5-1 Southern Conference). Devin Abrams added 34 yards rushing and a score, and Miller caught four passes for 64 yards. The Furman defense intercepted two passes, including one by Micah Robinson on the first offensive play of the game. Hugh Ryan made the other pick, the eighth of his career, deep in Furman territory midway through the second quarter. Preston Hutchinson passed for 270 yards with one touchdown for Chattanooga (6-2, 4-1), which is ranked No. 6 in the FCS coaches' poll.
